Mikel Arteta has set his sights on another Manchester City player. Ilkay Gundogan, who is set to become a free agent this summer.
“Arteta is planning to use the transfer market to strengthen his midfield ahead of next season,” Football London reported on Wednesday (June 23). Gundogan has been linked with a move to Arsenal.”
Arteta was previously the head coach at Man City. He began coaching under Pep Guardiola in 2016 and stayed with the club for just over three years, working with Guardiola to lay the foundations for the club’s current dynasty.
He has done a similar job as Arsenal manager. He took over in December 2019 and immediately proved his worth by lifting the English FA Cup. He’s been praised for building a young and promising squad at Arsenal, while also keeping up with trends tactically.
This season, they even challenged for the title. This was helped by the arrival of players from Man City. Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko had worked with Arteta at City. They fit right in at Arsenal and helped fuel the Gunners’ run to the top until the end of the season.
Arteta targets another Man City player. It’s Guendouane. Guendouane has been City’s captain this season, stepping up at key moments during the team’s historic treble challenge. His six league goals and three assists in the second half of the season helped City pull off the upset.안전놀이터
Arsenal would love to have him. For one thing, he wouldn’t cost a transfer fee. The Gunners need reinforcements in every position in the next transfer window. If they can fill the void left by Granit Xhaka with Guendouzi, with his winning experience and leadership, they’ll be well on their way.
It’s also a plus that he understands Arteta’s style of soccer. He’s seen enough of the type of tactics that Arteta likes to play at City. He”s a big game player, and Arteta is hoping to build on last season”s disappointment and challenge for the top of the league again next season.
