Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare announced on the 29th that the number of births in the first half of this year (January to June) in Japan was 371,052먹튀검증 (a preliminary figure including foreigners), a 3.6% decrease from the same period last year.

It was below the 400,000 mark in the first half of the year for two consecutive years, breaking the lowest level since 2000.

The number of deaths in the first half was 797,716, up 2.6 percent from the same period last year. Subtracting deaths from births, the population naturally decreased by 426,664 in the first half.

This decrease was 34,393 more than the first half of last year.

The number of marriages also decreased by 7.3% to 246,332 couples.

Japan’s National Research Institute for Social Security and Population Studies predicted the number of births this year to be 762,000 in a future population estimation report published in April.

If the rate of decrease in the first half of this year continues in the second half, the total number of births this year is expected to be about 770,000, similar to the estimate.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun said, “The number of births is a 27% decrease from 1.06 million 10 years ago.”

The number of births in Japan last year was 772,000, the lowest since 1979. Last year was the first time that the annual number of births fell below 800,000.

As the number of births decreased and the number of deaths increased due to aging and Corona 19, Japan’s population shrank by 800,000 last year, recording the largest decline ever. The decline continued for 14 consecutive years.

The Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications conducted a survey of the population of Japan as of January 1 this year based on the Basic Resident Register, and found that there were 122.42 million people, a decrease of 800,000 (0.65%) from January 1 last year.

In order to raise the birth rate, the Japanese government announced policies such as expanding child allowances, expanding users of daycare centers, and increasing the use of male parental leave in the ‘Children’s Future Strategy Policy’ decided at the cabinet meeting in June.
