Brooks Reilly (35, New York Mets), who succeeded in re-entering the major leagues after playing for the Lotte Giants in the KBO League, produced a rare scene of harvesting one hold and one save a day.

On the 22nd (Korean time), in the first leg of the doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians in the 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB), which took place at Citi Field in New York, New York, USA, Rayleigh climbed the mound after starter Max Scherzer in the top of the 7th inning, when the team led 2-0.

Rayleigh made a tripartite inning to keep a two-run lead, and passed the mound to Adam Ottavino in the top of the eighth.

With this, Rayleigh harvested the 10th hold of the season.

The Mets, who had increased the score to 3-0 by adding 1 run at the bottom of the 7th inning, turned around by giving up 4 runs in the top of the 8th, but Sterling Marte fired a two-run gun in the bottom of the 8th to take the lead back to 5-4. David Robertson held the scoreless in the top of the ninth, giving the Mets a one-run victory.

In Game 2 of the doubleheader, the Mets’ Justin Verlander and Cleveland’s Shane Bieber, who started both teams, fought side by side, leading to a close game.

Verlander made a good pitch with 3 hits (1 home run), 5 strikeouts and 1 run in 8 innings. Beaver also faced off with 7 hits (1 home run), 4 strikeouts, 2 walks and 2 runs in 8 innings.

Verlander, who dedicated the first solo shot to Jose Ramirez in the first inning, did not give up a point after that.

Meanwhile, the Mets reversed. In the bottom of the 6th inning, Francisco Lindor drew a mid-month solo arch to balance the Mets, who had been trailing 0-1, and in the bottom of the 8th, Jeff McNeil hit a sacrifice fly with 1 out on 1st and 3rd base, turning the game around to 2-1.

Rayleigh climbed to the mound in the top of the ninth inning to secure the victory by one point.

Reilly caught leadoff batter Stephen Kwan on a pitcher grounder. Kwan put a surprise bunt in the direction of first base, but Rayleigh quickly chased after it, caught the ball, and threw it accurately to first baseman Pete Alonso with a glove toss.

Rayleigh, who threw a hit ball to the follow-up hitter Ahmed Rosario, induced Ramirez to double-stroke to end the game.안전놀이터

It was the moment Reilly reported his first save of the season.

In an interview after the game, Rayleigh said, “I’m grateful to manager Buck Showalter (who hired me). (To mound two games in one day) is something I’ve experienced more than 1,000 times in spring camp.”

Rayleigh, who played as Lotte’s ace in the KBO League from 2015 to 2019, appeared in a total of 152 games over five seasons and recorded 48 wins, 53 losses and an average ERA of 4.13.

After parting ways with Lotte after the 2019 season, Rayleigh signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds and returned to the United States. After that, Rayleigh, who went through the Houston Astros and the Tampa Bay Rays, wore a Mets uniform through a trade in December of last year.

Rayleigh, who played as a starting pitcher in the KBO League, has been playing as a bullpen pitcher since re-entering the big leagues. He has a 3.52 ERA with 1 win, 1 save and 10 holds in 18 games this year.
